The East Village (recently renamed from Hastings East) is a large neighbourhood located on the northeastern corner of the city of Vancouver. The boundaries of Hastings East are the Burrard inlet to the north, Hastings St. to the south, Nanaimo St. to the west, and Boundary Rd. to the east.
Hastings East is quite the up and coming neighbourhood. With young people flocking to the area to take advantage of cheaper (for Vancouver) real estate, and proximity to Gastown, along with older folks who have lived in the area for years, it truly is a mixed bag. This area has become more and more popular in the last few years with some great restaurants, bars and coffee shops popping up along Hastings.
Hastings East (recently renamed “The East Village” by the city of Vancouver) is quite similar to the Hastings Neighbourhood with most of the Real Estate being located in the Vancouver Heights area north of Hastings Street and west of the PNE and Hastings Racetrack. Hastings-East is one of the smaller Real Estate districts in East Vancouver. With easy access to Burnaby and Highway 1, this is a desirable area of those who need to travel for work (though keep in mind the Skytrain and Canada Line don’t serve this area of town).
A few new condo developments are going up in the neighbourhood (including quite a few along Hastings St) and expect more to come. Detached houses in the neighbourhood are plentiful, and range from century old houses to brand new houses, often with laneways. The views from their area can be pretty phenomenal, so expect new home builders to take advantage and build multiple levels.
